Monday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 22

Monday, Sept. 16
A damp drisly day.  Pa and Squire went down to town this morning.  The rest of us worked the roads till about 3 oclock.  When it began to rain.  I wrote a couple of letters one for Lewis and the other for myself to cousin Horace Hayward. 

Tuesday, Sept. 17
Another rainy day.  Lewis and Squire commenced to cut corn,  They cut 15 shucks and then came and helped u work the roads till noon.  After dinner it rained til we had to work in doors in the evening.  we fixed the bridge up by Squires.

Wednesday, Sept. 18
It is wet and fogy.  It has turned cool.  Squire & Lewis cut up corn all day.  I cut wood and pined around till noon.  After dinner I went to plowing.  Squire worked the harrow.

Thursday, Sept 19
A cool day.  We fixed for frost but did not frost.  I finished plowing and went to harrrowing.  Squire & Lewis dug the sweet potatoes.  Pa got back from town.  It is so cool that Ma has got a fire in the fireplace.  I recieved a letter from Fannie.

Friday Sept. 20
Another cool day.  It frosted last night. I harrowed all day.  they went down for us to comp up and see Josie.  She is worse.  They stayed all day.  She seemed to be better. The boys dug potatoes in the morning.

Saturday Sept. 21
A big frost this morning but did not bite any thing. I harrowed half day went and got the sweet potatoes.  I took sackes of wheat down to the mill to get screened for the drill.  I did not get back till after dark.  A.P.D was here

Sunday Sept. 22
Another big frost this morning.  Arthur went home.  Mr. ?? was here.  Mr. Noble came down to tell us about the death of Josie.  She died at 12 oclock last night.  Mattie & Pa is up there now.  Myrt? & I took a ramble out on the hill?  Got my pockets fool of haselnut?? got back 5:45.

Side notes:
Josie was the daughter of  Lemuel Dutiel and Ruhama Emory.  Ruhama was Naomi's sister.  Therefore Josie was Charles and Mattie's first cousin.  She was only 18 when she died.  I have been unable to find a death record to see what she died of.  Her tombstone can be viewed at: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=dutiel&GSfn=josie&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=68375673&df=all

Saturday September, 14 and Sunday, September, 15th 1889

 Saturday, 14th
A cloudy day. looks like rain.  I plowed all day.  Mattie came home from Aunt Rews.  Vint Benett came down here after 6 lbs. of wheat.

Sunday, 15th
Still looks like rain but is a nice day.  It began to rain about 10 oclock.  We all stayed at the house all day except Smith went up to the Rayburns for dinner.  Pa wnet up in teh afternoon and saw Josie.  She was worse.  I stayed at home this evening and wrote two letters one to Abbie and one to Bell?

Thursday, September 12, 1889 through Sunday, September 15, 1889

 Thursday, Sept. 12
A nice day.  Still cool at night.  I plowed all day.  Lewis went with the load of hay.  did not get back till after dark.  Ma & Zenis went down to Mr. Morgan to get peaches.  She gave $1.00 $ .75 a bushel.  Will Cobert came up and stayed all night with us.  I received a letter from Miss Bell? Noble

 Friday, Sept, 13
The day is nice.  It was cloudy in the after noon. I plowed all day.  Bill Cobert went away this morning.  Pa went away on old ? and did not get back till in the evening.  Squire & Lewis is digging potatoes.

Saturday, Sept 14
A cloudy day.  Looks like rain.  I plowed all day.  Mattie came home from Auntie Rews.  Vint Bennett came down here after 6lbs. of wheat.

Sunday, Sept 15
